Aloha Friday #13 School
Friday, February 05, 2010What's Aloha Friday? Visit An Island Life to find out.
Question of the day:
When you were a kid how did you get to school? If you have kids how do they get to school?
A: Usually we lived close enough that I walked to school but in 7th grade I did have to ride the bus. And of course once I got my license in High School I drove to school.
Princess rode the bus to school last year and this year we are close enough to walk!

I always had a car pool so I rarely had to walk. It seemed like a far walk so I'm glad I didn't have to do it much!

We walked... up hill both ways... in the snow... knee deep...
okay maybe not in the snow...
Once in a while - on rainy or bad weather days - we'd get a ride.
I took the bus in 6th grade.
In high school we walked - we lived one mile from the high school... walkers could walk up to 2 miles...
My children are 20 miles from their high school... they drive themselves and before they could drive, they took the bus.

I MOSTLY rode the bus. Mom took me some years.

We walked back in the day. Of course, where I live now they don't believe in neighborhood schools.
Have a great Friday!

I walked to school all the way up until 8th grade when they had just built a huge Middle School to take all the kids in the area because there were just too many for the local grammar schools. Then in high school I was only able to drive if I had to work after school, so I got two part time jobs so I worked every day! :-)
My kids walked all through grammar school until their dad and I got divorced and I moved out of district, so I drove them on my days and they walked on their dad's days. They took the bus for middle and high school (or got a ride in HS) on their dad's days and I drove them on my days. I couldn't wait until it was over. :-)

K-3rd I walked to school. 4th-12th I took the bus. My kids took the bus, but now drive.
